We are lucky enough to have Fi Oberon come and visit us in May. She is returning to run a part of our week long Fleece to Felt week.
This year we thought we would go with a bit of a theme, as Fi has been doing alot of work around Venus Figurines and the tree of life, so we thought we would incorporate it into our May week. However, participants can come along with any ideas they like, it’s just if you would like a bit of inspiration it’s there!
As usual our Fleece to Felt week will start with Alex shearing one of our Shetland sheep, this year we have white fleeces, which we will then wash and sort.
After working with the fleece we will have a couple of days natural dyeing, picking dye plants and making botanical dyes -it’s a wonderful experience dyeing the fleece you have seen sheared only a few days before…The fleece will then be ready for felting. Fi specialises in needle felting, so she will take us through how she makes sculptural pieces from fleece, showing us all the techniques she has developed over the years. If anyone would rather wet felt, than needle felt that is also an option.
Guests stay in beautiful accommodation, set amongst farmland and woods -a real retreat from it all! Close to Glen Affric known as one of Scotland’s most beautiful Glens.
We have a couple of spaces left on the week- if you are interested in joining us…it is easy to get to Inverness where we pick all our guests up. We have travellers from the UK and many over seas guests stay with us, as it is surprisingly easy to get to Inverness, either by plane or train. Overseas travellers can fly into Edinburgh, Glasgow or London and find there way by train.
If you feel like learning something new in a beautiful place…Escape to the Highlands!
